More Than Conquerors!

There once lived a boy in a town. The place where he lived was under the tyranny and oppression of a wicked spirit. Consequentially, all the inhabitants of the town lived in great fear,  anxiety and anguish.

Unfortunately, the original natives of the land had willingly surrendered their rights as "owners" to this evil spirit by committing an act of disobedience.

Since the penalty for that act was death, only the sacrifice of a blameless, innocent person could redeem the people from this destructive power.

Years passed by and the young boy grew to be a young man. At the appointed time, he began to proclaim a message of hope and deliverance to the people living in this land of darkness. He was heralding a new order, a new life, a new kingdom that was contrary to the old.

As his influence spread throughout the land so did his enemies. As the manifestations of the new order began to take shape, the tensions escalated and the conflicts became increasingly virulent. A confrontation was about to take place; now it was not about "how it will happen?" but "when will it happen?"

Finally, at the appointed hour, in a bloody gruesome ordeal, the innocent man took on the offender. As it was required by the sacred laws, the sacrifice would justify the disobedience of the people and bring deliverance to them.

So the sacrificial lamb was slain. Through his blood, victory was accomplished and the land was restored back to its rightful "owners".

However, even though the oppressor and powers of his reign had been destroyed, the inhabitants had to still reclaim the land by exercising their authority which had been restored.

Likewise, dear friends, allow me to present to you a spiritual reality that affects each one of us in the real world which we live. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to pay a ransom for our sins and to bless us with the gift of eternal life in His Spirit.

God sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit (Romans 8:3)

We need to know that the ruler of this world has been defeated by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Then Jesus told them, "The voice was for your benefit, not mine. The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself" (John 12:30-32)

We were slaves of sin and spiritually dead but now we have been forgiven and are alive in Christ Jesus. We have been given spiritual authority to heal the sick, raise the dead, set captives free, drive out demons and proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the ends of the world.

For God raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus (Eph 2:6)

Sin of any kind, be it our pride and self-conceit (love of money) or the desires of our flesh (lust) and bondages (alcoholism, gluttony, television, internet etc) does not and should not yield any power over us for we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus, our Redeemer.

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37)

Yes, we will have temptations in this world but we can overcome it by the blood of the lamb and the power of His word. Let us therefore keep our eye fixed on the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to us on that day when His glory shall be fully revealed to us.

To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (Revelation 3:21)

  1. Fantastic word Raj. We need to remember who we are. I am a saint, died with Him, raised with Him and I have His authority. When I slip over He forgives and restores but I find some sins like habits or addictions are not easy to get the triumph over. I fail at times and I believe His forgiveness is the most valuable substance known to man! I could not be more thankful for HIs forgiveness. Surely it is a truly amazing thing. I am still learning to overcome some things, but because He did I will eventually get the victory. When I fall in the area of lust Satan tries to condemn me but thanks be to Christ that there is no more condemnation. As I work with Him all my enemies will fall.I wholeheartedly believe we are to be overcomers.I believe the sexual area for men is a big deal BUT His blood has covered that area too and despite the battle we will overcome.

  2. Thanks Steve for sharing your insights. The bible says, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9)

We need to certainly exercise discipline in bringing every thought of our mind and desire of our heart to the obedience of Christ. It is wise for us to heed the advise of our Lord in these matters:

"Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!" (Matthew 26:41)

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
